Each couple brings their own unique aspect to the wedding day. Whether it’s the ceremony or the reception I don’t simply capture the people and activities. I also love to photograph the wedding details that make a couple’s love story truly their own. Here’s a look back on some of my favorite details of the 2016 wedding season, and a little advice for you brides-to-be.
Reception Decor
Let’s start off with a little tip: Use Pinterest to generate ideas, but find ways to make it your own. For example, three weddings this season used sliced wood slabs as their centerpieces, but they all looked completely different! One bride had yarn-wrapped wine bottles, flower petals, and paper flowers on top her wood slabs. Another bride accented the tables with gorgeous vintage lanterns and mason jars filled with baby’s breath. A third bride incorporated her love of reading by topping the wood slabs with vintage books.
Food and Drinks: Not just Fuel for the Dance Floor
Providing delicious refreshments for your guests will definitely be appreciated. But they don’t have to simply be a box you check off your list, they are another area couples can share their favorite things with guests. This summer I saw a lot of couples do this! There was a coffee bar, complete with a signature espresso drink (my absolute favorite). Another couple had a beautiful drink table accented with vintage soda bottles full of fresh flowers.
Aside from the head table, the cake table is one that is going to get the most attention at your reception. Check out some of the wedding details incorporated with the cakes that I saw this year! Not only were the tables decorated beautifully, but couples also showed off their style in the cake choice itself. Some couples chose cupcakes to give their guests a flavor option, or to fulfill an epic Marvel superhero theme. While other couples featured layered cakes, one made by the bride herself! Cake toppers are a great way to give yourself a little keepsake after the wedding.
Wedding Details: Odds and Ends
I know a lot of focus gets placed on the bridal gown, and rightfully so. But, there are also so many other neat ways to add personality and sentimentality with your details. From shoes and socks to handmade gifts, I have no doubt you’ll find something like these 2016 weddings incorporated.
The Tuckers were combining families and decided that each family member would get to wear their color-choice of Chuck Taylors. Michaela ordered a gorgeous tie clip for Dan off Etsy that he was able to wear on that day, and I have a feeling he will wear it for many special days to come.
Whether it’s borrowed, blue, or new, be sure to let me know what the pretty little wedding details are that you want photographed. I do my best to hunt them down on my own, but there are often stories that I don’t know. This is also why I love building a relationship with my bride and groom before the wedding day! As I get to know you it helps us both to relax, have fun, and make sure that your love story is captured and can be retold for many years to come.
Stay tuned for more 2016 favorites!
