Todd and Sarah were married on a gorgeous, sunny afternoon at Elk Creek Resort. When predicting weather for the 2016 wedding season, I never would have guessed that a Labor Day weekend would be the hottest. Fortunately, the thunderstorm that came in waited until the middle of the reception to start. The strong family focus and Avengers themed reception made this a wedding I won’t soon forget.
They met and dated in college. Life took them separate ways before they both returned to Rapid City. From the moment they reunited, they knew they were meant to be together. Now, the five of them are one happy family.
Michaela and I decided that there’s something extra special about weddings like this. Don’t get me wrong, I love all weddings! The joy and love that fills the air is something that cannot be described. But, these weddings that tell the story of second chances, especially when kids are involved, have a little extra something.
Not only did Todd and Sarah say vows, but the kids did as well! Vowing to not whine (too much), to go to bed and “blah, blah, blah” (the officiant’s words, not mine!). A unity sand ceremony was completed to symbolize the five of them uniting as one. As a final touch before the big kiss, a recording was played of Sarah’s grandfather singing “You Are My Sunshine” – not a dry eye could be found.
No opportunity was wasted to showcase Todd and Sarah’s personalities. Each member of the family wore their color-choice of Chuck Taylors. The Elk Creek Resort hall was covered with all things Avengers and superheroes. Colorful table cloths were topped with Captain America shields, Hulk fists, Iron Man and more. To satisfy their sweet-tooth, guests enjoyed cupcakes decorated to the theme. Finally, they were able to grab a mask and pose in the photo booth. Fun fact: I am a total Marvel nerd! I was loving every detail.
This wedding was an absolute joy to photograph. I loved how the focus was on making sure everyone had a great time. They chose Elk Creek Resort so the families could spend as much time together as possible throughout the weekend. It was so very clear that Todd and Sarah have made family a priority. I wish you all nothing but the best!
Amazing photographs!
