I was so excited when Bill and Rachel asked me to take Rachel’s senior photos. Graduating high school is such a major milestone in life and deserves to be celebrated with quality portraits. I especially love when seniors bring their personality and talents in to their senior photos. Rachel is an extremely talented saxophone player so it was an absolute must to incorporate that into her session. She has such a fun, laid-back personality and was willing to go with the flow with whatever idea I may have had.
We did Rachel’s senior photos in two sessions as a way of incorporating some of her favorite things, as well as variety in her photos. Right before the school year started we headed to Sioux Park where we found the perfect spot to showcase Rachel and her saxophone. There are times I know the moment I take a shot that it is going to look amazing in black and white, and as you can see this shot was meant to be black and white. Later that evening we also took a short hike up one of the trails in the Skyline system of downtown Rapid City. I absolutely loved how the golden light and bright greens complimented her GORGEOUS red hair!
Can we pause for a moment to appreciate the a mount of variety Rapid City offers for sessions? Whether you want an urban, city feel or a rustic trail, you don’t have to go far for a gorgeous session.
Fall in Rapid City and the Black Hills is one of my favorite times of the year, so you can only imagine how excited I was when Rachel and her dad asked about going to Spearfish Canyon for more senior photos. We went to the Devil’s Bathtub trail, an area in the canyon that has gorgeous rock walls and a flowing creek. Rachel was such a trooper, balancing on rocks and striking fierce poses. I could not be more pleased with how these photos turned out and I hope Rachel feels the same way.
Congratulations on your graduation, Rachel! I cannot wait to see where your hard work and kind heart take you in life. Thank you for letting me capture this milestone!
