Oh, hey there 2018, you sort of snuck up on me! Anyone else feel the same way?
2017 was a great year for Shutter Shi Photography. In fact, it was a very quiet year for me and I think that’s what helped make it so great. Through the “quiet” I have been able to really reflect about what I want this business to mean. More so, I have been able to remember what I love so much about photography.
I love what I get to do each moment I pick up my camera: I get to capture moments. I’m not simply talking about the big wedding day moment. No, I’m talking about each little moment that’s happening during a session. I get to capture the crinkled-nose laughter and mismatched socks of children. That kiss you think no one saw? Yeah, I captured that. I was able to photograph laughter and tears and even “the look” that moms are ever so famous for.
There is nothing unique about why I love photography. I think if you ask most photographers our love for the job has very little to do with the money. I am always so joyful when I book a session because that tells me that someone wants to be able to remember this moment years from now. They want something to be able to share with long-distance friends and family or show their grandchildren years from now. Knowing that I am trusted with someone’s legacy is so humbling.
This year I was able to capture five wedding days. From a beautiful destination wedding in Custer State Park to an intimate ceremony in Pierre South Dakota surrounded with the closest of family and friends. Huge shout out to Sigrid for helping me tell the story of those those weddings! Thanks to Michaela I also got to shoot a beautiful wedding on a family ranch just outside Rapid City. There were also four amazing family sessions, all of which included their dogs: my favorite! (For real, if you have four-legged family members, please don’t hesitate asking about how we can include them in your session.)
It was a great year for Shutter Shi Photography and I am so excited for what is to come. If you are the type to take notice, you’ll also see a bit of new branding! More on that soon. In the meantime, here’s just a brief glimpse at the beautiful people that allowed me to capture their story.
Great job Shiloh…
